Founder/ Chief Editor- Elliot Solop

Elliot carried his passion for basketball at the collegiate level playing for Montclair State University in New Jersey. He graduated in 2009 from Montclair State earning a Bachelors of Science Degree in Finance (Cum Laude). In addition, Elliot also spent time as an assistant basketball coach at John F. Sandeep Satish
Sandeep Satish is a graduate of NYU’s Stern School of Business and is currently a second year analyst working in Public Finance Investment Banking at Citigroup (I’ll make it clear right now, I am not a Mets fan). I was born with sports – literally, my parents say one of the first t-shirts I wore was a Yankee shirt (don’t forget, the Yanks weren’t good back then). Born in central Jersey, I am loyal home team supporter, avidly following the Yankees, Jets, Devils, and Nets. Just as I am diehard NY/NJ supporter, I equally despise all things about Boston – the Red Sox, Pats, and Celtics especially (notice they all play in the same division as my teams). I grew up playing tennis, soccer, basketball, and baseball and ultimately committed myself to playing tennis in high school. I continue to be involved in sports today, coaching youth baseball for Harlem RBI. The goal of my column, titled “Enter Sandman” will be to offer closing thoughts on the week in sports. I hope that as a young professional, I can share my passion for sports with those that are in a similar position.

During the past semester she interned with the New Orleans Saints. Early in and prior to law school, she has worked for the Entertainment Legal Assistance Program, Cook County Public Defender, Public Defender Service for the District of Columbia, and DeSanto & Morgan LLC, a plaintiff’s litigation firm.

John Culotta
John is currently a 2nd year law student at New York Law School. He received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Long Island University before attending law school. Upon graduation from law school, he hopes to pursue a career in Sports Law focusing on athlete representation.
His interest in sports has been ingrained in him since he was a child. He began playing both basketball and baseball year round since he was old enough to shoot a basketball or swing a bat. He continues to play both sports through high school and still consider them hobbies of his.
Baseball has always been and always will be his favorite sport as he follows it on a daily basis. He believe it is the only game where on a given night you may see something that you have never seen before in the history of the game, which dates back to over 100 years ago. The goal of his articles is to give insight on things happening in the game of baseball that the average fan may overlook or not realize at first glance. He looks forward to any comments or suggestions to help improve the quality of his work.

Lawrence Fox
Lawrence Fox is currently a 2L at New York School. He received his BSPA in Legal Studies from the School of Public and Environmental Affairs at Indiana University. He loves all things Rangers, Knicks, Giants, and Yankees and accepts that there will never be another time like the Spring of ’94. Lawrence is an avid Indiana basketball fan and loves college sports. He worships the Messiah and still can’t understand how Ewing has 0 rings. His goal as a writer will be to share my passion for sports with the fans and to provide insightful feedback into the beautiful industry we call the sports world.

Jared Dubin
Jared Dubin is currently a second year law student at New York Law School who received his undergraduate degree from the University of Miami. Prior to college, he played 4 years of football for Marlboro High School in Marlboro, New Jersey. He once attempted to block current Denver Broncos running back Knowshon Moreno, then a star 2-way player at Middletown South High School. It’s entirely possible that he even caught a few passes. Although he was raised in Giants/Jets territory, Jared grew up an unashamed Dallas Cowboys fan and considers Emmitt Smith the best running back in NFL history, but Michael Irvin (from? THE U!) is and always will be his favorite player. He is also a fan of the 27-time World Series Champion New York Yankees, the 1994 Stanley Cup Champion New York Rangers, all University of Miami sports teams, and is a long-suffering New York Knicks fan who would like to give James Dolan a piece of his mind one day. After law school, he plans to attempt to buy the Knicks with his Bar Mitzvah money and if that fails he will pursue a career in either sports and entertainment law or criminal or corporate litigation.

Ed Palubinskas “The Shooting Surgeon”
Coach Ed Palubinskas is the “World’s Basketball Shooting Coach”. Before Ed became “Coach Palubinskas”, he starred at LSU (averaged 18.6 points per game) during the mid-70′s where he was selected as an All-SEC, All-Region SEC, and an All-Coaches’ Team member. Following his tenure at LSU, Ed was drafted by the Atlanta Hawks in the 3rd round of the NBA Draft in 1975 and was also drafted by the Utah Stars in the 8th round of the ABA Draft. Internationally, Ed starred for the Australian Men’s National Team during the 1972 (2nd in Olympic Scoring) and 1976 Olympics (Olympic Scoring Leader). He was selected as an All-World member during both Olympic tournaments. Ed still finds himself as an active player, playing in the Senior Olympics and breaking Guinness Book World Records for shooting on a consistent basis.
Ed has an even more impressive resume as a coach than he does as a player. Ed has molded the shooting form for many professional players- Shaquille O’Neal, Lisa Leslie, Lauren Jackson, Sean Elliott, Brandon Bass, Brandon Roy, Jerry Stackhouse, Bobby Phills, Oliver Lafayette, Ronald Dupree, and Roger Powell. Lauren Jackson consistently credits him for her transformation as a player during her 2010 WNBA season.
Ed’s approach to coaching is much different than the typical shooting instructor. He has developed the “Smartball” and a variety of instructional DVD’s that bring an “outside-the-box” approach to his shooting methodology (All of these can be purchased at www.freethrowmaster.com). Ed will post articles, posts, lessons, and videos for The Sports Tomato. His mission is to change the way the world thinks about shooting a basketball.

Jennie Luptak
Jennie Luptak is a social media geek, blogger, and purveyor of obscure hockey facts. She is currently a marketing intern working with MLX, a revolutionary hockey skate company with two Stanley Cups under its belt. She’s also a “freelance marketing consultant,” which is a fancy way of saying “self-unemployed.”
A born-and-raised Pittsburgher, Jennie thinks the Ben Roethlisberger is a jagoff, the Pirates are an embarrassment, and Mario Lemieux is a saint. Her greatest sports memory is watching her Pittsburgh Panthers beat the Fighting Irish, 36-33 in quadruple overtime, live from last row of Notre Dame Stadium.
Jennie will keep The Sports Tomato fashionably informed on the wide world of social media. From Tweetgates to blogger controversies, she’ll be studying the good, the bad, and the what-were-they-thinking of professional athletes’ and sports franchises’ digital communication decisions.
You can follow Jennie on Twitter [@jennierye] or be her Facebook friend [/jennieryanluptak]. And if you want to help ditch the self-unemployed label, check out her portfolio [jennieryanluptak.com].
