Week 9 already! Here it is, the start of the playoff stretch run for all of your fantasy teams. By this point we have a pretty good grasp of the “real deals” and the “one week wonders”. Guys like Phillip Rivers and Arian Foster are having career years and undoubtedly have helped many owners this season. Other guys like Tony Romo, Ryan Grant, and Shonn Greene have set back many teams as injuries and ineffectiveness have plagued them all year.
Some rookies have come in and done a great job as well. Sam Bradford has been nothing but positive for the Rams so far and it looks like the crop of young QBs taken in the first round in recent years continues to come up gold. Jahvid Best has been banged up in recent weeks and hasn’t produced like his early season spurt. Look for Best to pick it up down the stretch for the Lions. Dez Bryant has shown explosive big play ability for the disappointing Cowboys. He has been a force in the receiving game and looks great catching passes.Lets take a look at the weekly sections for week 9:
Start ‘em, Sit ‘em
Start: Mark Sanchez: Sanchez started off the year as hot as could be. He was throwing the ball well hitting Dustin Keller and Braylon Edwards for big plays and TDs. Sanchez struggled last week against a rag tag Green Bay defense that has really struggled. To be honest the swirling winds at the new Meadowlands were extremely tough to contend with and even Aaron Rodgers struggled in the wind tunnel. This Week Sanchez is up against the lowly lions. The Lions defense ranks 19th in the league in passing defense and 27th in the league against the run. The running game wil
l open up big plays for Sanchez so look for big yards and a few TDs for Sanchez.
Start: Mike Tolbert: Phillips Rivers has been a stud this year and has pushed the San Diego offense to tops in the league. Rookie Ryan Mathews has been somewhat of a disappointment which has opened the door for Tolbert. Tolbert has scored a TD in each of his last 7 games and is near the top of the league in TDs scored. His ability to run the ball and catch balls out of the backfield all allow for Tolbert to be a good play this week against the Houston Texans. The Texans have struggled mightily against the rush this year so look for Tolbert to get in the end zone at least once.
Sit: LeGarrette Blount: Blount has been a bright spot in a stagnant and mostly nonexistent rushing game for the Tampa Bay Bucs. This week the Bucs are up against the stout run defense of the Atlanta Falcons. The Falcons have given up just over 95 yards a game on the ground, good enough for 9th in the league. Josh Freeman will be in a tough spot all game with his rushing game being shut down. I’d sit the hot Blount this week.
Start: The Law Firm: aka Ben Jarvus Green-Ellis : Green-Ellis showed flashes last season and when given the starting position out of camp early in the season. The last two weeks Green-Ellis has proven he can run in the NFL. Having back to back 100 yard weeks has made Green-Ellis a great play this week against the Browns. New England is typically a pass first team but with the loss of Randy Moss and a couple quiet weeks from Wes Welker, Green-Ellis has been propelled in the front of the New England Offense. Look for a big week from Green-Ellis.
Fantasy Savior:
Bernard Berrian: With Minnesota so banged up at WR look for a solid week from Berrian. Harvin by all accounts is nowhere near 100% and with Moss out of the picture that leaves very few options for Brett Favre. Berrian hasn’t been much of a factor so far this season but this week he may be thrust into the number one receiver role. Look for many targets to go Berrian’s way. I’d anticipate a good week for Berrian and at least 1 TD.
